Silversun Pickups, the darlings of the blossoming Los Angeles indie music scene, are currently in the studio recording a follow-up to their EP, Pikul. The forthcoming debut full-length will feature all new tracks, some of which have been written as recently as the past few weeks. The album is being produced by Dave Cooley (Rolling Blackouts) and engineered by Tom Biller (Sean Lennon, Jon Brion) and is set for release Summer 2006 on Dangerbird Records.

"Working with [Dave] Cooley has been great. He really pushes us to the absolute limit," conveys lead vocalist/guitarist Brian Aubert. He continues, "He gets deep into the cracks and crevices of each song and it's comforting to not have to worry about certain things because we know Cooley will not let anything slip by. He bizarrely sees it all."

The band's seven-song EP has garnered rave reviews while their live shows have solidified them as "ones to watch" in the coming year. Silversun Pickups completed a hugely successful residency at Spaceland this past summer and recently took some time off from their recording schedule to share a stage with Brendan Benson on his most current tour. Aubert reveals, "Between the recent tour and the amount of preproduction for the record, I've never played so much music in all my life - it's incredible! And it really shows, as we're all playing better than we ever have. With all the work we've put in, it really makes me feel that we're doing our best to make this record the best it can be."

Borrowing from the blueprint of indie rock, the Pickups inject spacey keyboards and distorted guitars into escalating songs, built around swooping bass lines and lead singer Brian Aubert's unvarnished vocals.
