From 'Lost' Creator J.J. Abrams |
| JJ Abrams is at it again! His name is appearing on one of the most-anticipated television shows beginning in the fall season on the FOX network. The show is called “Fringe” and it began previewing on FOX during the finale of this past “American Idol” season in May. It appears that the FOX network hopes the show to have as large of a cult-like following as JJ Abrams other current television series: the ABC network’s “LOST.” The FOX website has already launched an updateable Wiki site made for what they refer to as “super fans” of the yet-to-air television show. The show gets its name from its subject, “fringe science” and the show’s popular slogan is, “What if science could exceed our imagination? What if the unimaginable could become reality?” The premise of the show is that a series of strange events lead an unlikely set of people together to discover that the events are part of a larger and stranger whole, perhaps changing the world’s idea of what is “possible” and what is “impossible.” Anna Torv plays character Olivia Dunham, an FBI Special Agent called in to find the answers to a strange happening on an international flight that lands in Boston: there is no sign of life on the plane. The discoveries that she and her fellow FBI agents, including Special Agent John Scott (played by Mark Valley) make lead them into dangerous situations—some near death—that cause them to have to go elsewhere for help. They are forced by circumstance to go to the most brilliant scientist of our generation, Dr. Walter Bishop (played by John Noble) who has been institutionalized for almost 20 years. His estranged son Peter (played by Joshua Jackson) is called in to help. The synopsis of the series is inevitably quite vague and will perhaps become clearer with the airing of the pilot on the 9th of September. If this show is expected to be anything like JJ Abrams other big-name series, viewers can expect to not get complete answers about anything for quite some time. The show is starring actress Anna Torv as well as other supporting actors including Joshua Jackson (of “Dawson’s Creek”), John Noble, Lance Reddick (from “LOST”), Kirk Acevedo (of “Law and Order”), Mark Valley (of “Boston Legal”), Blair Brown, Jasika Nicole, and more. The show is produced by Warner Bros. Television and JJ Abrams production company Bad Robot. The creators and writers of the show are JJ Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, all of whom worked on “Alias,” “Star Trek,” and “Mission: Impossible III.” The pilot episode is directed by Emmy award-winning Alex Graves (of “The West Wing”). The show will air on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET. The pilot episode will be an hour and a half in length. |
