Wow. That is pretty much all I had to say after watching only one of the episodes of the 3 seasons that is Beauty and the Beast: The Final Season. Many questions come into my head after watching many of the episodes, which we will discuss later. The wow that I find myself uttering after each episode is one of amazement. Who the heck came up with this premise? Now before I really start to put this show down I should take into consideration the people who did enjoy this show when it was still airing. To be fair, it did receive Emmy and other award recognitions. Perhaps if I had been old enough at the time of its original airdate to watch the entirety of the show, I may have been slightly compelled. However, seeing the utter ridiculousness of this storyline I cannot believe someone would take a good 45-50 minutes to watch an entire episode.

The entire series, created by Ron Koslow, follows a lion-man named Vincent (Ron Perlman), and a smart and savvy assistant D.A. in New York, Catherine (Linda Hamilton). They share a special bond that allows Vincent to sense when Catherine is in danger. They ultimately fall in love. This particular season deals with Catherine caring for Vincent after some sort of collapse. She finds out in the first episode that she is pregnant with Vincent’s child and goes to tell him. However she is kidnapped by a strange, shady figure. Usually Vincent would be able to save her but their connection was lost due to his mental breakdown. She is held captive until she gives birth when she is killed. Vincent senses his child and goes to rescue Catherine only to discover her body. The baby is now the captive in the situation. Vincent is now devoted to saving his child and bring Catherine’s murderer to justice.

Even though the show is completely preposterous most of the acting was okay. It was reminiscent of a soap opera at times but a good soap opera. Linda Hamilton, the woman who plays Catherine is a terrible actress though. She had some sort of face on her head almost every scene she was in. I know the situation she was in was not good, but she could have at least changed up her expression so her look was not always so predictable.

Not only is this premise for a show unbelievable, it is also ruining a children’s story. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to bring this cute little kid’s book and awesome Disney movie to a slightly twisted television version was sadly mistaken. What made this a nice fantasy story was just that, fantasy. No one actually saw real people doing this. It was only fictional characters in a book and cartoons in a movie. What makes this show utterly ridiculous is the use of real human beings.

Where would one find a lion-man? Why are a bunch of people living in a tunnel? My last question is a real thinker. How did Catherine manage to get pregnant? Would that not be bordering a line called beastiality? So many awful images come to my mind I don’t even want to discuss this aspect anymore. I found the last season of this show to be ridiculous and nonsensical. I also think it is disturbing bringing this story to television where real life people are acting it out. I have a feeling if you are a fan of the TV network F/X you would enjoy this show. If you have never seen Beauty and the Beast or were not a fan of the show originally, do not waste your time.
