ABC’S Grey’s Anatomy has just released its fourth season box set and it is very impressive! The seventeen-episode season fared much better than most shows last season because of the writers’ strike. The five disc set features an array of bonus features that make it well worth the purchase.

The first feature is called “New Docs on the Block” and is a feature describing the three new members of the staff introduced this season. The characters include Dr. Erica Hahn, the tough cardiologist, Dr. Lexie Grey, the cute young doctor, and Nurse Rose, the medical specialist who is involved in a clever romantic pair-up. The video, which runs over 8 minutes long, delves into the back-story of how each character came about, how each actress got her part and how that part has added to the show. Interviewees include several cast members, the show’s executive producer and the actresses themselves.

The second feature, a fun little tid-bit called “On Set with Patrick and Eric” runs for almost 6 minutes and describes the intricate relationship of the show’s two leading men. The actors discuss themselves, but other cast members have plenty to say about them as well. There is footage of the hilarious competitions and jokes always existing between the two actors. It shows that the rivalry and “tough love” relationship exhibited on screen exists in real life as well.

The next feature called “Good Medicine: Favorite Scenes” breaks downs the cast and producer’s favorite scenes from season 4. They comment on the scenes that best represent the progressions of the season and the character developments of both new and old characters. The actors discuss the rivalries, the relationships, the heartbreaks, the rumors, racism and all the other issues the show has never been afraid to confront. This feature runs for over 13 minutes.

The next item on the special feature menu, called “Dissecting Grey’s Anatomy,” features 7 missing scenes from season 4. Some are interesting, others better left out, but all interesting for fans to see into their favorite characters.

“In Stitches: Season 4 Outtakes” runs for about 4 minutes and more than the typical series of hilarious mistakes, this blooper reel just gives a really good picture of how the cast interacts. Most importantly, these actors, who are forced to be serious through so many scenes on screen, are able to let loose and have a really good time with each other!

The final feature, “A Quick Cut,” is a just-over-4-minute breakdown of the relationship connections between every single main character on the show. This short feature is perfect for anyone not previously familiar with this show: while it doesn’t really clarify anything, it sure will get any viewer interested in learning more.

This DVD set, featuring 17 episodes and over 40 minutes of bonus material, is a must-have for any fan of this incredible network series.
