Raw Spice hardly seems to scream documentary about one of the most famous girl singing groups ever.  That title suggests a slightly racier video.  However Raw Spice is an “unofficial” documentary about the Spice Girls.  It is a great inside look at the spice girls.  There was more to them than bubble gum pop.  At least a little more.

Raw Spice is basically about the very beginning of the spice girls.  How they were chosen, the long practices, the whole two years before they made it big in the United States.  All five of the Spice Girls were chosen out of many, many talented European girls.  Before they were known as Posh, Scary, Baby, Sporty, and Ginger they were just five girls- Victoria Adams (now Beckham), Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisolm, and Geri Halliwell.  The documentary is filmed from the day of their auditions and follows them through their long but ultimately well spent two years of practice.

They were given a house in Maidenhead, England which is 25 minutes outside of London.  The five of them struggled, and learned for the next two years.  There was always the option of finding a faster way to fame for all five of the girls as they became more popular.  However, their first manager offered security and trust.  The never before seen footage is captivating, highlighting candid talks with all five girls.  They discuss their ambitions, and dreams.  There is also some emotional fights between some of the stronger personalities.  At the end of the day though, this powerhouse quintet became one of the most successful and well-known girl groups in history.

Overall, this DVD was a total flashback for me.  Seeing the Spice Girls again, at the top of their game was really awesome.  It was even cooler to see them candid and personal.  Even though I was a major fan, I learned some key things about the girls.  This was a fun DVD to watch. However,  I must warn viewers that are not fans of the Spice Girls and most males may not find this DVD as entertaining.  Otherwise Girl Power!!
