Reno 911: Miami is a film about danger, intrigue, and heroism.  It’s a tale of a fearless police force that will stop at nothing to get the job done…and get it done right.  But if you’re a fan of Reno 911, the COPS inspired spoof series, you know I’m completely full of it.

The film, directed by Robert Ben Garant, and based on the popular Comedy Central series, follows a group of misfit police officers to a national police convention in Miami, Florida.  The group is originally from Reno, Nevada and has never before participated in this event, so when they receive an invitation, the cops immediately hop on a bus and head down south.

The force, lead by the bewildered hot-pants wearing Lt. Jim Dangle (Thomas Lennon), is inextricably denied access to the convention, but decide to make the most of the vacation until they are called on by the city of Miami after the convention comes under attack.  The Reno police officers are expected to patrol the streets of Miami while the rest of the country’s police forces are quarantined in the convention center due to a possible terrorist threat.

The Reno squad finds itself a little confused by problems unique to Miami. Dealing with beached whales seems to be a bit out of their league, which they prove by blowing up the animal because they couldn’t seem to collectively roll it back into the ocean.  A sophisticated police control room is beyond their comprehension and instead of using the switchboard to respond to civilian calls, space cadet Deputy Trudy Wiegel (Kerri Kenny) unplugs it to pop some popcorn.  And that’s only one of the many humorous scenes Wiegel steals, including a hysterical/ bizarre sex scene with Lt. Dangle, who seems to be confused about his own sexual identity.

Needless to say, the Reno police force mindlessly rummages through the city proving that their hilarious incompetence is truly its strongest feat.

If you’re a fan of the show, you already know what to expect.  But if you’re in for 90 minutes of carefree laughs, Reno 911: Miami is definitely worth putting on the top of the Netflix list.
