A classic |
| Finally! Mario and his Lvl. 5 stache make their first starring appearance on the Nintendo Wii console. Originally set to release on the Gamecube on Oct. 9th, 2006, it was quietly pushed back to the Wii and now with the North American April 9th release of Super Paper Mario the world may never be the same, at least the world of the Toadstool Kingdom. Yes GDC '07 was buzzing over the playable demo of this highly anticipated title from Nintendo and Intelligent Systems and now it has finally arrived. For fans of the previous Paper Mario titles, fear not! This game will not disappoint. Though they did stretch away from the classic RPG style of previous titles, they brought in the old school plat forming style of Mario games past. Along for the journey are certain members of the Mario world which help in their own special way. In addition, you are also joined by special beings called Pixls. With cute names like Thoreau, Carrie and Fleep, you can almost guess what each of them do to help you in your mission. Now, what is that mission? Well it all begins on a warm sunny day when Luigi does something stupid. He actually complains that he's bored and that he and Mario should take a trip to visit Princess Peach and see if there is any trouble at the castle. Suddenly Toad runs up in a panic (someone get the man a valium) and alerts them that Peach has been taken. Immediately their thoughts move to Bowser. But no! Our dastardly foe is not responsible, well at least not this time. No it is a new villain, a comedic, third-person speaking evil man by the name of Count Bleck. He and his not-so-evil henchmen plan to destroy all dimensions and worlds. After capturing Bowser and playing the priest at Bowser and Peach's wedding (yes, you read correct), his plot begins to unfold. ![]() With an amazingly ground breaking new form of play Mario can flip between 2D and 3D with the simple push of the A button going from classic side-scroller to a hidden 3D world. With the ditching of the classic RPG fighting style, Super Paper Mario brings the simpler times back where jumping on the head of your enemy is enough to bring it down. ![]() Now for those Nay-Sayers that want your RPG Mario back I say, "Give it a chance." There is still an experience system and a great original storyline. With eight and a half worlds you're looking at around fifteen to twenty hours of game play. More then enough to keep you busy for awhile. Plus, be on the lookout for a hidden arcade deep in the city of Flipside. The rewards only exist to help you further the beating of endless Goomba keister, but you'll be addicted to the quick paced games. Wii owners rejoice for the Miyamoto hath brought you another classic to add to his amazing history. Let every thing that has breath take in the gloriousness of Super Paper Mario.
