MechCorps hearkens to BattleTech fans both old and new at MechaCon IV!
GET IN THE POD!

Screaming is an excellent motivator, especially when you’re about to mount a three-story mass of metal and mayhem. Those who were long-time fans of BattleTech will be pleased to know that MechCorps has done a great job in reviving an endangered virtual sport. Currently, they are little more than a successful, self-supporting expensive hobby. Please note the keywords “self-supporting.” Even though it’s not as widespread as many would like it to be, current investors included, there is a measure of success keeping it alive and allowing it to travel as necessary. With the proper momentum, a BattleTech revival will surely be on the horizon.

MechCorps’ Mobile Armor Division allows for transportability of otherwise untransportable equipment. The nearly half-ton virtual pods are mounted with wheels and detachable outward monitors, which give spectators a look at the action. On the inside, one has all the makings of a control scheme more complex and engrossing than anything Steel Battalion could ever hope to offer. Fortunately, those who are within the operating distances of a local MechCorps group can benefit from weekly Training Nights held by veteran Mech pilots.

The MechCorps website offers a plethora of information related to the hobby. Some of the more unique features are the Pilot Locator, which is a map of the country where pilots can place their pins, Training Forums, and the PX merchandise store. If you’re a die-hard Mech junkie or a fan of BattleTech and you don’t know about this site, get off your pilot’s couch and get in the pod! For those who’ve only been familiar with titles such as Steel Battalion and Chrome Hounds, take a gander at the craze that started it all. Check out the website, www.mechcorps.com, and see if there is a local chapter near you!
