So even though I don't own a PS3 I got to try Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. One word "Holy" adding a second, Crap! This was the only reason to get a PS3 for me that was until I read Issue 183 of Game Informer - July 08 and saw the cover story for Infamous. The article begins by stating "if a society's infrastructure - government, utilities, law enforcement - stopped functioning, how long would it be before people put aside the trappings of civility and focused solely on survival?" Immediately I was hooked! Now this PS3 only title is still a little under a year away but is already getting praise and in the running for game of the year. Sucker Punch Productions may have a hit on their hands. After reading the coverage and looking at screenshots this very we'll could be the game that gets me to spend the money.
Also in this issue the games editor Andy McNamara wrote a small article entitled “WE GET IT, DROP IT.” Summed up, it is simply about the media's take on the gaming world. He makes great points about the aging that gaming has undergone. Really a great article. Check it out. I was recently told that we got an invite to E3 this year. Now we here at Static had already planned to spend our vacations out at GDC. Now, the ultimate decision is upon myself and fellow writers. I myself will most likely be at GDC, since it seems like a more relaxed environment. I'm also interested in the technical side of gaming, which will sum up the first few days of GDC. Two of our writers have been to GDC over the past few years with their assistant program. They both say if you can make it go. Just to think having the chance to hear Will Wright or Miyamoto San speak. I can't wait myself.
We'll see what happens over the next week.
