My, how things have changed since Slimy went to war. Seems like just yesterday we were both aerating lawns and converting leaves into high nitrogen fuel for plants. You see, Slimy was my older brother, the bravest worm you'd ever care to have met. He was measured in inches, not centimeters, you know what I mean? Anyways, when the war started, worm versus worm, he went to fight. Said it wasn't right the way things were. You were such a fool.
Ma and Pa both tried to talk him out of it, said it was too dangerous to go out there and fight. Said when you're out there against four other worms, no one's gonna take it easy on you, you're friends can't protect you forever. But Slimy didn't listen, maybe he couldn't listen to the facts, as cold and hard as the earth he's now buried in.
Things have never cooled down between the worms and now it's my turn at the front. This new war, it's different than the old ones. They're saying this is Worms 2: Open Warfare, maybe the battle to end all battles. Sure, it's in 2D, but that's the winning strategy for side scrolling destruction. It's back to basics in this war, with things being simple and payback sweet.
Some said they're worried about jumping into the war after it's been going on so long. Don't worry, they train you good at the front. Run you through a bunch of tutorials in case you've never fought other worms before. Teach you how to jump, how to plan, how to kill. Maybe Ma and Pa are right. Maybe having over 30 different weapons is too much destruction in the hands of a few committed worms. Old Slimy, he'd send pictures of him holding his new bazooka or with a grenade clutched in his setae. He was born to kill, through and through.
I've heard there's new ways that they're fighting now too. You can fight a regular campaign, with just you and your squad, but there's other things they've got going on. There's three different mini game modes that use the microphone and touch screen to navigate through the objectives, in case murder isn't the only thing on your mind.
For me, all I want to feel is the warm hum as a bazooka finishes what a grenade started. I want to feel the wind on my skin as I transverse the map with the ninja rope. Maybe that'll take away the pain of Slimy's memory. The fight isn't just at home any longer. It's all over. It uses Wi-Fi and random match ups to make sure that if there's bad worms out there, anywhere, I can get paired up against them. I can make a difference. I can use friend codes to play against people I already know. I can try to get those monsters that killed my brother.
Some folks have said this is the most complete war us worms have ever fought. I'm inclined to agree with them. When the worms first went to war 13 years ago, there were only a few weapons, limited environments, and no clue of what Wi-Fi play was. Things are different now; we're ready to have the war that ends all wars. Some folks have even talked about designing their own battlegrounds for the final strike on all that us worms hold dear. I'm not gonna let that happen, not today, not ever.
Slimy was my brother. God, I miss him so much every day. But a worm has to grow up sometime, get three of his best buddies together, and have one hell of a time. Today's a good a day as any to die.
