Young MC
Rising young star, Krista is the latest addition to the world of female MCs mixing alluring and feminine melodies, sick beats and able raps. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Krista grew up with a hard nosed sense of herself and her Italian/Puerto Rican heritage. Krista’s upbringing not only shaped who she is as a person, it has acted as the inspiration for her bold combinations of sounds and textures in her tracks.

At 21 years old, Krista is already backed by some big names. Camus acted as director on her debut disc and has been helping Krista develop her talent over a span of two years. Now that Krista’s voice has evolved from the raw talent it was in her teenaged years into what we hear on her MySpace page in the track “Temporary Insanity,” it is easy to see why Clive Davis has signed her.

On your MySpace page, your bio frequently references things that you've struggled with while growing up. What has been your biggest challenge in you life thus far and how has it shaped your music?

I’ve always been underestimated; I’ve always had to fight for what I want. That’s really helped me to shape my music. People call me “firecracker,” I have a lot of attitude. Not in a bad way, I just speak my mind and I tell the truth. I’m blunt sometimes about it and I don’t care. Well I do care, later when I’m home by myself, I’m like “damn, why’d I say that.”

At what point did you decide to switch from pursuing a career as an artist to that of a musician?

I’ve always considered myself a musician. I thought that they were the same thing, but before I thought of myself as an artist or musician, I always considered myself a writer first and foremost. The way I grew up as a kid, I didn’t really want to express my emotions so I would just write them down.

Do you play any instruments?

Yea, guitar. I play it like Hendrix though, I’m not a righty.

Is there anyone out there that you would like to collaborate with (Either producer or artist)?

I am a lover of all genres, I don’t really have a set list on who I want to collaborate with. I just want to work with someone who will experiment and push boundaries. I want to work with people who are interested in creating new sounds and taking it to the next level.

How are you dealing with all the weight that's being put behind you before your first record is even out (website, video shout outs, X Games, etc.)?

I do the best I can to embrace every day. I’m very grateful for the things that have been coming my way. I’ve worked hard to this point and I will continue to work hard. Somedays, it feels as if it is not real. And then some days, I’d rather deal with the craziness of this, my dream, than work 9 to 5 and hate what I do.

What's next for you, are you touring this summer?

I don’t want to give it away right now, but there are definitely a lot of things going on, a lot of big things happening.

When should we start looking for your album? What can we expect from it?

All I can say at this moment is that we’re putting the finishing touches on the album and we’re gearing up for a lot of exciting things. I don’t want to give up specific dates but at the same time I’m very much excited and ready to give it to the world.
