Australia’s Eskimo Joe won’t stop out-growing themselves. After a gold debut with 2001’s Girl, the art-pop trio went double platinum with A Song Is A City. But it doesn’t stop there. With their third release, 2006’s Black Fingernails, Red Wine, Joe went four times platinum in Oz, reigning over the Australian charts and winning slots on the Big Day Out tour and this year’s Live Earth festival, while pulling in four ARIAs (the Aussie equivalent of a Grammy) and three Australian MTV music awards – for best video, best download, and best group. Not bad for a few kids from Fremantle who formed to compete in a battle of the bands. See what all the Down Under fuss is about on the propulsive “Black Fingernails, Red Wine”
Eskimo Joe is currently hoofing it across the states on a full-scale US tour, trying to transplant their success down under into the American market. And if their live shows are any indication, the next month should make more than a few inroads.
