The newest release from this psychedelic band from Belgium, entitled Transylvania, brings a ghostly host of haunting sounds. Building upon their last album, I am The Golden Gate Bridge, Create With The Atom Brain returns to the psychedelic indie scene with this quality new album.
Centered on the memorable title song, “Transylvania,” the album playfully bandies about haunting and cryptic melodies. Transitioning between “The Color Of Sundown” and later songs including “Darker Than A Dungeon,” Transylvania continually uses sliding guitar chords and synthesized harmonies in search of brain waves holding ideas they might not find. Each song employs the same musical skill and mechanics in slightly altered ways, all in an attempt to attach musical sensors to the brain that are in search of a rich vein.
If you are in the mood, this album will put you in a delirious and difficult funk that will fill the room with psychedelic wavelengths. You might struggle to find the subtle nuances to each foray into the mind, brought about by repetitious backbeats and rhythmic melodies. Coupled with vocals floating slightly above and below the surface, Creature With The Atom Brain provides enough voltage behind Transylvania to shock and eventually numb the listener into a trance.
Elements of each song will splinter inside your brain, but songs like the opener “I Rise The Moon” and “Transylvania” best display the talent of these mind-altering rockers. Other songs, such as “The Lonesome Whistle,” occasionally lack in the type and scope of psychedelic depth offered in other parts of the album, but nonetheless keeps probing for more answers.
Overall, Transylvania is a good full-length album from this Belgian indie band. When you are ready to be thrust into a warped and somewhat deepened mood, Creature With The Atom Brain gives psychedelic indie rockers another quality offering.
