This rock band has it all and their album, Sound Awake, proves that. Great vocals and thought out lyrics, awesome guitar riffs and catchy verses, I could listen to this album without getting bored. If you enjoy listening to old school music such as Nirvana or Blur, then you will probably enjoy this Australian band.
This review was hard to write because there was nothing I could criticize them for, and I will be honest, it is a lot easier to find the bad then write about the good.
My favorite song on the album is “The Caudal Lure.” It reminds me of “Teen Spirit” by Nirvana. With lyrics such as, “Hold your nerve/Keep your focus/There's something peculiar about the way you pay to save your soul/You forfeit your dream,” the song is similar to “Teen Spirit” in that it is anthem like.
One great thing about Karnivool’s Sound Awake is that is possesses a variety of sound. By this I mean that tracks are not all metal or all instrumental, but every song has a unique vibe to it. For example, the first track “Simple Boy” is very heavy rock but the track “The Medicine Wears Off” is more soft rock.
The album, which is already released in Australia the United Kingdom, will be released in the United States this February.
Definitively check Sound Awake if you are into great rock music. And, if you are jonesing for a new go-to-album that you can throw on the speakers and enjoy, then this might just be the one.
