The bio for Prosaics says "For fans of: My Bloody Valentine, Interpol, New
Order, Joy Division." Besides the obvious cash-in on those bands hawtness
at the moment, I see no reason why they were included as reference points.
In my opinion, a reference to the "Hot Snakes on anti-depressants" or some
allusion to the urgent and dense production would be scores more accurate.
The thing that I love about Prosaics on this EP is the constant, unrelenting
pulsing paranoid urgency. They are always running from something. That
unnamed fear lurking in the density of the sound makes these 5 brilliant
songs wholly exciting on each subsequent listen.
The sustained energy of the EP as a whole frames each singular track
to create a work of sheer magnificence. With a name that brings to mind mosaic
patterns arranged from prozac, the band delivers acutely to that description. If
you have
never stayed awake for a week and fallen down twisting dark tunnels afterwards,
then
this small taste of the Prosaics will inform you of what you've missed.
This disc is att once thankfully primitive and abundantly sophisticated. The
Prosaics have crafted a short but
thrillingly relentless burst of music for the delerious, glassy-eyed
people of our desensitized world.
