The "Break" that Alex Gold's album Backfromabreak is referring to is a spinal cord injury following an accident in 2002 that put him in rehab for a year and a half. I'd imagine that during that time he had a lot of free time to put into his music which really shows on this diverse electronic album. All eleven tracks draw on a variety of sounds and styles of music that the famed British DJ has masterfully woven into a diverse listening experience. Here are a couple ideas on where to take this experience.

Although he has played club sets with the best of house, trance, and electronica DJ's, the mellow sounds on this album seem perfect for a spaced-out long distance car ride. For example, the slow and wavy sound on the second track "String Theory," would be perfect for a boring traffic jam on the way out of Los Angeles. The buildup to a faster dance sound on the UK hit "Stranded in Paradise" would fit nicely with flying along the freeway dead-set on hitting Vegas in less than three hours. Barstow and the like would eat your dust as the thumps and bumps of Mr. Gold pushed you along, with synthesized beeps and melodies riding at your sides.

When listening to the track "Foreign Shore," try to imagine an ultra-slow motion fight scene from a gritty, cult action movie. The tribal beats coupled with the beautiful female leads add a sense of contour and dynamism that could only be matched by slow motion violence.

Finally, if you are having a dance off against your friends I would have to recommend playing the tenth track "LA Today." Its has quite a kick; as if a disco DJ drank six or seven RedBull Vodka's and played a set.

Perhaps you can find your own places to take Alex Gold's musical journey. The point is, its going to take you somewhere.
