As I put the soundtrack for Grandma's Boy in my player, I thought to myself, "What the hell am I doing? I didn't even see this movie." But there are some notably worthy tunes here. It's mostly a sampling of alternative artists such as Fischerspooner, Bloc Party, The Futureheads and Aphex Twin, with a few rap tracks thrown in for good measure. The most notable rap track is Zion I's "Spinnin'," which keeps getting stuck in my head on a seemingly endless loop.

If you're like me and didn't see the film during its brief run, it would appear to be one drawn out one-liner after another about getting stoned, laid, or old: take your pick. I've seen bits and pieces of it and have heard the sound bites on the CD. The movie is certainly no award contender, but that doesn't mean the album should be ignored just because it's connected to a lame-ass movie. The lines from the movie are amusing. Personally, I could have done without them.

Without them, the disc would be a damn good compilation of music. "Alive & Amplified" by The Mooney Suzuki and Spin Doctors' "Can't Kick The Habit" are two of the most "radio-friendly" tracks. VHS or Beta's "Night On Fire" joins that list as well.

My rating would be higher if this soundtrack simply showcased the music. But they just HAD to put the sound bites in. Buy it for the music, burn a copy sans sound bites and then sell the damn thing.
