In Denver's small but promising music scene, it can be difficult at times to find your place at the right show. So upon hearing the news that 2005's favorite surprise indie-pendent act Clap Your Hands Say Yeah would be performing at the modest sized, yet wonderfully rockable venue The Bluebird Theater, I laced up my dirtiest pair of Chuck Taylors and got ready to rock!

The boys took the stage in true "it's about the music" fashion by simply strapping on their guitars and starting the show. In fact, singer Alec Ounsworth did not say a single word to the crowd all night long; at least not one that I can recall. This might seem insincere to some, a "too cool for you" vibe, but in Ounsworth's case, the silience just added to the already mysterious mystique that the band possesses.

After opening with "This Home on Ice," the band meticulously played through most of the entire album. My only bitch about the show is that Ounsworth's voice is kind of hard to understand on the album, and live his voice was just another instrument in the mix.

Despite the vocal issues, the fans' love was undeniable. Positive energy flowed throughout the room as the band played through near flawless versions of "The Skin of my Yellow Country Teeth," "Is This Love?" and "Upon this Tidal Wave of Young Blood." Fans danced in that cool, spastic, indie rocker way and they were doing it with smiles on their faces and love in their hearts.

I returned home to my comfy little pad a bit tipsy and still feeling high from this magical show. Because I feared that I might not be able to understand my barely legible handwriting, I decided to briefly record the experience before calling it a night. So I typed up a post on MySpace and in the spirit of all that is good and pure I will share it, drunken typos and all. So enjoy the original review:

"Well folks, another hard night of work. I just returned from the Clap Your Hands Say Yeah show here in Denver and I must say it was fucking wonderful! I was there to review and study the indie culture. I think I did both, but I am already forgetting exactly what went on; damn cheap beer. SO, in order to have this shit recorded somewhere, I am going to tell you all about it! The shwo was great. CYHSY represent everything that is beautiful about the indie culture (if you can really call it that) and they had me moving spastically like a drugged out indie kid throughout the entire show. Just like the record, I could not understant a word they were saying, but the atmosphere and adoring fans and the spectacular musical composition was just freaking fantastic. It's a hard show to review because it was so fun and I must admit, I have always had trouble distinguishing between certain songs of theirs. But as much as I would like to bash them for this, I jsut can't. I mean, they are just fucking awesome. Totally unique and energetic. Right up my alley. I also interviewed some fans to get their take on the indie scene and what exactly the indie scene was. Apparently, there is much confusion there. I met some neat folks and they all had brilliant things to say. OK, maybe not ALL brilliant, but wonderful perspective. There was a super cool indie chick who i talked to and really wanted to get he number, BUT, I wussed out. Sorry to disappoint. ANyways, I will write the review up soon and send it to you all, as I always do, but until then, peace, love, and happiness my friends. I truly love each and every one of you and I hope you are all having a wonderful week."
