Ernest Borgnine, 91 years old and still as young in mind as always, has finally finished his autobiography which is titled simply, Ernie. Borgnine, who has lived in his Beverly Hills house for 43 years—35 of them with his fifth wife Tova who operates a successful cosmetic line on the shopping network QVC—says it was hard for him to get motivated to write his autobiography. He says he didn’t always feel like people would care, but he also chalks part of the procrastination up to just plain laziness.

Borgnine’s long-time publicist Harry Flynn got him a tape recorder to start his writing years ago, hoping that it would help him get started in working through the details of his early life, especially.

The book covers extensively the details of Borgnine’s life, career and five marriages. His marriage to Ethel Merman, a 32 day affair, was depicted in her own autobiography as a single blank page, is promised to be more fulfilling and detailed in Ernie.

Ernie released to the public on August 1.
