Nathan McCall, writer of the memoir Makes Me Wanna Holler, is releasing his debut novel, Them, on August 19, 2008. The novel, in short, is the story of a black man living in Atlanta in what was historically considered to be the “richest Negro street in the world.” The story follows the man as the neighborhood is slowly taken over by white residents until the area changes completely from what he had once known. The novel is prematurely called a possible great American novel, but pre-release reviews have shown the book to be highly praiseworthy.
McCall, who has worked as a reporter for several well-known newspapers, is also the writer of a series of essays about American race relations, titled What’s Going On, in addition to his memoir and upcoming fiction debut. He currently resides in Atlanta where he works as a visiting lecturer in the African American Studies Department and Emory University.
