Salman Rushdie’s lawyers have reportedly put a hold on the release of a new book, a biography of former Special Branch officer Ron Evans which is set for release through independent publisher John Blake. Rushdie, who was criticized harshly and publicly by Ron Evans after the release of his own book The Satanic Verses is afraid that the book will be libelous.
Blake’s firm released a copy of the book to Rushdie through his lawyers and hopes that he will read the book and comment upon its content in time for an August 11 release. The publisher believes that his fears will be relieved once he reads the entire book. Rushdie’s lawyers are not so optimistic.
