Continuing on the strength of last year's "surprise" hit Last Hero Standing, Last Planet Standing tries to keep the shining star burning bright. Unfortunately, I think that it is on track to fizzle out in a galaxy of much brighter celestial masterpieces.
The biggest weakness in this first issue is obviously the dialogue. A shout-out to all the old skool comic geeks, the language is childish and terribly uninteresting. The fight scenes revolve around ridiculous exchanges of insults and poorly represented action sequences.
The only saving grace is the anticipation created by the Avengers and Spider-Girl. Well, ok, Galactus is cool too and he is consuming anything in his way and sets up the start of some plan to take over the entire universe!
With all that is going on in the Marvel world with Civil War, it might be difficult to get terribly involved in this. That said, this is only the first issue and some interest has been twisted out of the dust. Maybe this is only the spark of the fire yet to come.
