It would be hard to imagine that the re-emergence of Moon Knight could compete with the classic Moench/Sienkiewicz days. Marvel has never really had a handle on what to do with MK since. Throw in a newbie comic writer and an artist that I have never really seen establish himself and you have anything but a recipe for success.

I am sure that I am not the only person who is eating crow for talking smack about this title before it came out. Maybe the pressure of failure was just what was needed creatively to churn out a monster of a new beginning for all. This is no joke. Moon Knight is the real deal. I read this book three times. Everything is just kept in sync. Writer Charlie Huston seems to completely understand the character, delicately creating a cliff on the edge of sanity. We are given glimpses of Moon Knight's world as third person on the street, while also getting a first-person glimpse into his mind.

The limited narration suits the comic well, providing an "actions speak louder than words" pictorial. This allows David Finch to have his day in the sun. Now, I have to admit that I am not completely sold on the art here. But....so far, the dark moodiness and action has been well represented.

Ok, so maybe it is not completely on par with Moench/Sienkiewicz, but the first issue is enjoyable. Maybe we could put Huston and Sienkiewicz together and see what happens. Ah, wouldn't that be interesting? Regardless, I am extremely happy with the possibilities here. We will have to see how the art holds up. Newcomer Charlie Huston looks to have a bright future ahead of him in comics.
