While most of the hubbub of Marvel Comics is about the Secret Invasion storyline, the Ultimate universe has something up its sleeve as well. Not a whole lots has been revealed about the past of many of the Ultimate versions of our favorite super heroes. With the first issue of Ultimate Origins, the lead in to the anticipated Ultimatum storyline, we are given just a glimpse of the things that are in store for us in issues to come.

The issue begins with Spiderman speaking with Bruce Banner. Banner sets the stage for everything to come in the first panel with the simple phrase, “Listen, its all connected. That's it, that's the secret.” Nice and vague for us there Mr. Banner. Well, what is he talking about anyways? Without giving too much away (that will have to wait till all the issues of Ultimate Origins come out) the comic proceeds to allude to the ties between Nick Fury, Captain America, and Wolverine. The plot unravels a bit and the origins of mutant life on the planet itself is revealed. This of course bring into a few questions about mutants before this particular event, like the recently dispatched (maybe?) villain Apocalypse who claimed to be the first mutant, and an ancient one at that.

The first thought that popped into my head after finishing the comic took me back a few months in the Ultimate Xmen storyline where it was revealed that Beast was alive and was working on the Legacy Virus antidote. I can almost assure you this has something to do with the origins of the Ultimate Universe. It is a shame I have to hold back for the sake of not spoiling things for you guys.

As far as the issues art and dialog goes, it is at par with the rest of the Ultimate comics. They did a good job of telling just enough to make readers come back for more without being too stingy on information. If you have been keeping up with any of Marvel's Ultimate universe comics. This is a must to buy as what is inside will shape the future of the Ultimate universe.
